Hello, I’m Adam Altman.
I’m very passionate about a basic process most of us learned in elementary school — the scientific method. Of course, back then you would end up with a mess in the kitchen and a giant poster that collected dust in the garage. These days, I use this exact same method in all of my business endeavors.
Here is a brief example:
1) Ask a question. For example, “Can we increase average order value?” 2) Research. What have others done to increase average order value? 3) Hypothesis. If we add an upsell on the checkout page, we will increase average order value by more than 15%. 4) Test it. This means, we have to be able to measure average order value. 5) Analyze the results. Did we increase it? Is it statistically significant? 6) Report the results. I love to use a wiki post to share findings with the team. Communicating results reduces human resources waste and sets the stage for collaborating on larger scale improvements.
Don’t get discouraged if the test failed, as long as you’ve learned something, and you were true to the process, it will continue to get easier as you continue to do it. Having as low as a 20% experiment success rate is enough for almost any business to soar.
